Congratulations to Amy Robinson, Dana Stevens, Nora Ephron and Julie Powell on the brilliant success of “Julie & Julia.” I loved this movie. Meryl Streep’s performance is incredible, and this story is so touching and relevant to today. Julia Child was one of the original career women, and I think all us working girls who’ve come after can relate to wanting something more in our lives than just diapers.
This project touched me on a personal level because I grew up in Pasadena and Julia Child was a graduate of my school. Go, Poly girls!
I was working for Dana Stevens when she was in development on this project with Amy Robinson and they sold it. At that time, I was wondering how they were going to take Julie Powell’s book and create cinematic relevance – because, to my mind, the book was not fundamentally cinematic. Nora Ephron found a stroke of genius in interweaving the two women’s lives, which brought relevance to the Julia Child story.
